January 26th relief society lesson

Hello sisters!
I thought it would be nice to post a brief recap of the lesson given in Relief Society each Sunday.  Today's Lesson was given by Chris Jones and it was off of the talk, "Put your trust in the Lord," by Elder Ballard.  I have included the link for you to click on to read the talk.  It's a beautiful talk about missionary work.  In Chris' lesson, she read the scripture from 3 Nephi 27:29: "Therefore, ask and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened up unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened."  This is a beautiful scripture.  When we are involved in missionary work, the Lord will be there to guide and help.  Both the sister missionaries and Sister Jones stated that missionary work first begins with showing a genuine friendship and love. Elder Ballard said,
 "You don’t have to be an outgoing person or an eloquent, persuasive teacher. If you have an abiding love and hope within you, the Lord has promised if you “lift up your voices unto this people [and] speak the thoughts that [He] shall put into your hearts, … you shall not be confounded before men;
“[And] it shall be given you … in the very moment, what ye shall say” (D&C 100:5–6).

I too believe that missionary work begins with pure love.  You sisters are amazing examples of sharing this love to others!  This love touches people in ways we may never fully grasp.

Temple Group-Updated

If you are not already aware, our relief society has a temple group that is held on the fourth Thursday of every month.  The Salt Lake Temple is closed until February 17.  The group will still meet this Thursday at 9:00 am at Dianne Hales home.  They will either be going to the Bountiful or South Jordan Temple.  Please contact Dianne if you will be attending.

I found a really beautiful quote from President Boyd K Packer.  He says,
“Sometimes our minds are so beset with problems, and there are so many things clamoring for attention at once that we just cannot think clearly and see clearly. At the temple the dust of distraction seems to settle out, the fog and the haze seem to lift, and we can ‘see’ things that we were not able to see before and find a way through our troubles that we had not previously known."

Welcome to the Monument Park 16th Ward Relief Society Blog

Welcome to your Relief Society Blog! This is a great way to stay connected with what's going on, especially if you are serving elsewhere. Here is where you can find useful church links, a calendar of events, our relief society newsletter, information on upcoming events and the lesson schedule  In addition, we want  this to be a way of documenting the fun activities we will have with pictures.  So don't be camera shy!  Feel free to give any suggestions as to what else you might want in this blog.

Don't forget "A morning with Sister Virginia Pierce" on January 25th at 10:00 am.  Virginia Pierce is the daughter of President Hinckley.  This should be a wonderful event.
